John Da Vinci Attenello, M.D.

John Attenello, M.D., FAAOS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders using both minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques. He completed his medical degree and spine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Diego, one of the most highly regarded spine training programs in the country.

During fellowship at UC San Diego, Dr. Attenello trained under Dr. Richard Todd Allen and Dr. Steven Garfin, an internationally recognized leader in orthopaedic spine surgery, gaining extensive experience in both complex open and minimally invasive spinal procedures. He was also among the early adopters of augmented reality and 3D navigation technologies in spine surgery, incorporating advanced imaging guidance to enhance surgical precision.

Dr. Attenello earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Hawai‘i, where he served as Chief Resident, before returning to UC San Diego for advanced spine fellowship training.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS). Dr. Attenello has been recognized as a 2026 Super Doctors Rising Star and was featured in Becker’s Spine Review’s “10 Spine Surgeons to Know.”

A Southern California native, Dr. Attenello is proud to provide spine care in his hometown of Los Angeles, with offices in Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach. He welcomes new patients seeking comprehensive, individualized spine care.
